Floating the Chena
In May I organized a day trip down the Chena River, in the same state park as the Granite Tors. We started the float at the North Fork and followed the river about 10 miles. The water was still very cold, as we all found out. Both of the boats flipped at least once. There weren't any major rapids, but the water volume was high and there were a lot of sweepers, particularly in the narrow North Fork.
There weren't many mountain views, but the river itself is scenic. I came back later in the summer with my parents and we spotted about five bald eagles flying across the river in front of us.
Sam at the front of the canoe. Our boat only flipped once, but it necessitated my chasing the canoe for 1,000 feet or so down the river.
A view of the Granite Tors from the river.
