Castner Class Trip

My next mountaineering trip was also for the ski mountaineering class. We went down to the Delta Range, which is actually part of the Alaskas. We skied in a couple of miles, then set up camp and practiced crevasse rescue.

Picture from the ski in. It was overcast at the time, so it was really difficult to distinguish any features on the glacier.

Our campsite.

View of the camp and mountains from a moraine above the site.

We set up ropes on this ice wall to simulate having fallen in a crevasse. The idea was to practice using the Texas prussik technique to pull yourself up and out of the crevasse.

We also practiced using pulleys to pull someone out of a crevasse.

View leaving the glacier.
