Alyeska Trip

On a 4 day weekend, Jeff and I took a trip down to Anchorage to ski Alyeska. Jared joined us a day later for his first-ever introduction to skiing. Alyeska is, to someone who had never been skiing outside the East Coast (me), incredible. I think it's a 2,200 foot mountain, and there's an awesome amount of skiing to be done. The weather in Anchorage was typically cloudy, but on the third day the clouds pushed off and it was absolutely gorgeous (hence most of the pictures were taken from that time period). There are a lot of pictures again, so hang on.

In the town of Girdwood, where Alyeska is located.

Jeff the tourist.

I call this my Bode Miller look.

Jeff rocking it down the side of some slope. Conditions on the first two days weren't the greatest, but it was still pretty righteous.

Alyeska by night.

The ski resort also has a pretty nice hotel that has a pool and hot tub. We didn't care to pay for the hotel, but managed to poach the pool and hot tub twice.

Jeff approves of the hot tub.

Random bumper stickers in Anchorage.

On the last day, the skies opened and the weather was awesome. I call this next set of pictures "Yes, Virginia, Alaska is beautiful."

In addition to the awesome weather, Alyeska opened up a bowl that had previously been un-touched, and cut this traverse into it.

Jeff and I switched skis for a few runs. Not being used to the fixed heel, I was kind of slow on the traverse.

Jeff rocking it free heel.

Unfortunate

Me going down on the fat skis.

Sweet view on the ski down.

Jeff and Jared.

Jared and me. Alyeska was a pretty big step for Jared's first couple of days skiing, but he got hooked, which is awesome.

Hopefully I'll make it back to Alyeska again. It was an amazing few days.
