Pedernales, Texas?
As soon as I gained any measure of freedom from crutches, casts, and etc., I took off for some traveling. My first taste of any kind of outdoors excursion came, in all places, in Texas. Now, usually I'm not all that enamored of the state, but Priya and I went to Pedernales State Park, and it ended up being pretty cool. Plus, I got a small measure of backpacking out of the deal.
Not exactly a primitive backcountry, the walk was marked by wide trails, but with good views.
While walking, we came across this sweet little hole. Unfortunately, swimming there wasn't allowed.
There was, however, a swimming area. Here I am getting ready to gingerly take a dip. The still-sort-of-injured foot kept me from using my tried and true jump-in-before-your-body-feels-the-shock method for entering cold water.
A view down the swimming hole.
Priya post swimming.
The major innovation of the trip was putting almonds in a jar of honey. An awesome treat, particularly if your stove is giving you the business and won't let you eat your breakfast. When the almonds get low enough in the jar, you start to feel like Pooh Bear tried to get into a jar of honey.
All in all, a pretty good little trip. Not exactly strenuous, but then I'm not exactly in shape for a strenuous outing. It felt good to have a backpack on my back again.
